Samsung and Cisco team up to bring Knox to AnyConnect enterprise VPN app

Samsung announced today that it has teamed up with Cisco to create "AnyConnect for Samsung KNOX," an update to Cisco's AnyConnect enterprise VPN app that now incorporates Samsung's Knox security technology on enabled devices.

AnyConnect for Samsung KNOX provides customers the ability to achieve tighter security control while enabling flexible per-application access to corporate resources via mobile VPN services. This minimizes the potential of non-approved applications from compromising enterprise networks and data.

Curiously, while Samsung just announced the collaboration today, it appears as if the update has been available on Google Play since the 15th. Cerita gagal nya Nexus 6 Pakai Sensor Sidik Jari

 

  Motorola pernah punya cita-cita menyematkan sensor sidik jari pada Nexus 6. Cita-cita itu kandas. Ternyata penyebabnya adalah langkah dari Apple, yang merupakan salah satu rival mereka dalam bisnis smartphone.

Bila pengguna memperhatikan bagian belakang Nexus 6, terdapat sebuah cekungan bulat dengan logo "M" tepat di bawah kameranya. Cekungan tersebut sebenarnya disiapkan sebagai wadah sensor sidik jari.

Tetapi cita-cita sensor sidik jari harus kandas di tangan Apple. Masalahnya adalah raksasa teknologi dari Cupertino itu terlanjur berhasil membeli AuthenTec, perusahaan penyedia teknologi sensor sidik jari yang diincar Motorola. Apple membelinya dengan nilai 356 juta dollar AS pada 2012 silam.

"Rahasianya adalah (cekungan) itu harusnya merupakan sensor sidik jari, tapi penyedia teknologi sensor sidik jari terbaik sudah dibeli Apple," ujar mantan CEO Motorola Dennis Woodside, seperti dikutip KompasTekno dari Cnet, Selasa (27/1/2015).

"Jadi semua orang cuma bisa mencari penyedia terbaik kedua di industri ini, sayangnya belum ada penyedia yang seperti itu," imbuhnya.

Teknologi fingerprint

Teknologi sensor sidik jari merupakan alat elektronik yang digunakan untuk menangkap pola sidik jari secara digital. Teknologi ini sudah lama dikenal. Namun, penerapannya pada smartphone dan tablet tergolong baru.

AuthenTec yang dibeli Apple adalah salah satu penyedia layanan sensor sidik jari terbaik. Teknologi mereka membua pengguna smartphone cukup menekan jarinya ke arah sensor sehingga dapat dipindai.

Pembuat sensor sidik jari lain belum memiliki teknologi serupa. Sebut saja, Validity yang dikenal sebagai salah satu pembuat sensor sidik jari terbesar, menberi syarat pengguna mengusapkan jarinya di atas sensor agar dapat dipindai.
